Five Things You May Not Know About Kunle Soname
Since media reports revealed the acquisition of majority stake in Portuguese second division side, Club Desportivo Feirense, by Nigerian businessman Kunle Soname, there have been divergent views about the move.
Nevertheless, Kunle Soname may well be a new name on the block among Nigerians. Here are five things to know about Mr. Soname:
1. One-time Local Government Chairman
Mr. Soname was once Executive Chairman Ikosi-Isheri Local Council. He was in office for 8 years in a period spanning 2003 – 2011.
2. Board member, Nigeria National League (NNL)
Mr. Soname is not a newbie in football. His foray into European football has a history rooted back home in Nigeria. Sitting on the board of the NNL, Soname represents the entire South-West zone of Nigeria. His time on the board dates back to 2010. The NNL is the Division One league – similar to Championship in England – in Nigeria.
3. Chairman, Bespoke Contact Centre
It is not clearly known the nature of operations and service of the company. However, Kunle Soname is reputed to be the chairman of the company.
4. MBA Holder
Kunle Soname is a university graduate. Oh, yes! This may come as a surprise to many but Soname is not just a graduate with a first degree in Estate Management from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, he also holds an MBA degree from Lagos State University (LASU).
5. Chairman, Bet9Ja
Sports betting is a growing phenomenon in Nigeria. Yet to be embraced by many across Nigeria based on religious and ethical beliefs, it is multi-billion Naira industry by many standards. A market player in the industry, is Bet9Ja. In fairness to the company, they can be touted as a foremost betting company in sports in Nigeria.
Kunle Soname happens to be chairman of Bet9Ja, which may in part, explain the source of his fund to acquire stakes in Club Desportivo Feirense. He is also, chairman Remo Stars, a division one club based in Ogun state, south-west Nigeria.
