Samson Siasia: My Wedding Anniversary Was 27th Not 30th
Samson Siasia, head coach U-23 national team, has refuted media reports he and his wife celebrated 30 years in marriage last Friday.
The former Super Eagles midfielder in a release on the website of the Nigeria Football Federation, said he “actually celebrated his 27th marriage anniversary and not 30th as has been reported in the media.”
Coach Siasia’s response is coming on the heels of reactions in the social space bordering on his age and duration of his marriage based on how it made headlines.
For example, Vanguard Newspaper used the headline:
“47 year old Samson Siasia celebrates 30th wedding anniversary.”
Popular blog site, Linda Ikeji, preferred the sensational headline:
“So, wait, Samson Siasia is celebrating 30th wedding anniversary & he’s just 47?”
These headlines among others, drew lots of mixed reactions on social media, most especially Facebook and Twitter.
While congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Siasia on their anniversary celebration, questions as to what age Siasia married his wife vis-à-vis their anniversary were rhetorically asked.
These issues Samson Siasia feels should be laid to rest “as he got married at the age of 20 in 1988.”
He [Siasia] states further that he had “notified the organizers that day of the error when he saw the cake.”
Samson Siasia did not fall short however, to thank Nigerians “for their support during his playing days and now as coach.”
